What does it fund?

Agricultural harvesting equipment, heavy-duty trucks, agricultural pump engines, tractors, and other equipment used in agricultural operations.

Who is eligible for funds?

Local air districts receive funds based on a formula and award them to farmers and agricultural businesses for individual projects.

Are there recent policy changes?

Two additional project categories were added in April 2022. One new category is for Zero-Emission Agricultural Equipment. The other category is the Used Agricultural Equipment for Small Producers Pilot Project in the San Joaquin Valley, which allows small producers that may not have the means to purchase new equipment to replace their Tier 0 or Tier 1 equipment with used Tier 3 or cleaner equipment.

How does this program provide benefits to priority populations?

80 percent of FARMER funding is directed to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, which has the highest overlap of farmland and disadvantaged and low-income communities. Air districts may also choose to prioritize projects that provide benefits to priority populations. Staff assist with disadvantaged and low-income community outreach and provide technical assistance for small growers in disadvantaged and low-income communities.
