On July 26, 2013, U.S. EPA redesignated the South Coast Air Basin (South Coast) to attainment for the 24-hour PM10 standard, and approved the initial South Coast PM10 Maintenance Plan demonstrating the South Coast will remain in attainment for 10 years after designation to attainment. The Clean Air Act requires that areas designated to attainment submit, eight years from designation to attainment, an additional maintenance plan demonstrating the area will remain in attainment for, at least, an additional 10 years after the initial ten-year maintenance period, or until 2033. On June 4, 2021, the District will consider adoption of the 2021 PM10 Maintenance Plan for the South Coast Air Basin (2021 PM10 Plan). The 2021 PM10 Plan demonstrates the South Coast Air Basin will remain in attainment of the PM10 standard until 2035. On June 24, 2021, the CARB Board will consider the2021 PM10 Plan, together with transportation conformity emissions budgets included in the CARB Staff Report, for adoption and submittal to U.S. EPA for inclusion in the California State Implementation Plan.
