Southern California Edison Settles For $350,000
Southern California Edison (SCE) paid $350,000 in penalties for violating the Regulation for Reducing Sulfur Hexafluoride Emissions from Gas Insulated Switchgear (SF6 GIS Regulation) as codified in California Code of Regulations (CCR), title 17, § 95350 et seq. (17 CCR § 95350-95359).
SCE failed to maintain current and complete records of SF6 equipment and gas container inventories for their 2017, 2018, and 2019 reports. Subsequent inquiries also revealed that reports prior to 2017 (2014-2016) also contained substantial inaccuracies.
This settlement was reached in July 2021. SCE agreed to pay a total of $350,000 in civil penalties for three reporting years, a per unit penalty of approximately $320. SCE has fully cooperated with CARB in this matter. As a preventative effort, SCE has implemented new procedures for validating reporting requirements, such as preemptively identifying and addressing issues in advance of submitting annual reports.
