The Statewide Mobile Monitoring Initiative (SMMI) is a $27 million legislative investment to generate the first ever block-by-block picture of air quality in over 60 consistently nominated AB 617 communities across California.

Community Air Monitoring Plans (CAMPs)
On June 30, 2025, after a comprehensive review of the 62 SMMI Community Air Monitoring Plans (CAMPs) and upon conclusion of a 14-day public comment period, CARB granted approval of specific Aclima broad area monitoring components in each of the 62 CAMPs. Several components remained unapproved and underwent revisions in response to feedback received during the public comment periods.
As of October 1, 2025, CARB has approved all CAMPs. CAMPs are currently being finalized, translated, and assessed for ADA compliance.
