Walmart, Inc. Settles For $415,000
In February 2021, the California Air Resources Board and Walmart, Inc. of Bentonville, Arkansas, reached a settlement agreement in the amount $415,000. Walmart, Inc. sold, supplied, and offered for sale private labeled “Hair Finishing Spray” products that were manufactured by Apollo Health and Beauty Care Inc. for use in California. The Walmart, Inc. private labeled Hair Finishing Spray products contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standards specified in title 17, California Code of Regulations section 94509(a). Additionally, Walmart, Inc. sold, supplied, and offered for sale “Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid” products in California containing concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standards specified in title 17, California Code of Regulations section 94509(a). The violations resulted in approximately 30.37 tons of excess VOC emissions for the Hair Finishing Spray (aerosol and pump spray) category, and 0.17 excess VOC emissions for the Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid (Non-Type “A”) category. To come into compliance, Walmart, Inc. ceased sales of the Hair Finishing Spray and Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid products.
