Kautz Vineyards, Inc. Settles For $6,000
In November 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Kautz Vineyards, Inc., with its principal location in Murphys, California, reached a settlement agreement in the amount of $6,000 for failure to comply with CARB’s Regulation for the Management of High Global Warming Potential Refrigerants for Stationary Sources (RMP Regulation). The total penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
Kautz Vineyards, Inc. owns and operates a winery that operates four medium-sized refrigeration systems, with the greatest having a full charge greater than 200 but less than 2,000 pounds of a high global warming potential refrigerant. The system is subject to the RMP Regulation.
In 2019, Kautz Vineyards, Inc. was referred to the Enforcement Division for enforcement action due to late or inaccurate reporting as specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95386(a). The investigation identified three years of violation for late reporting of four units. Kautz Vineyards, Inc. came into compliance quickly, put into place policies and procedures to prevent similar issues in the future, and fully cooperated with the investigation.
