Orgill, Inc. Settles For $38,000
In November 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Orgill, Inc. (Orgill) of Collierville, Tennessee, reached a settlement agreement in the amount $38,000 for violating CARB’s air quality regulations. The $38,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
An investigation by CARB staff showed that Orgill sold, supplied, and offered for sale, in a Nontype “A” area of California, automotive windshield washer fluid products that are not compliant for Nontype ”A” areas of California. The Rain X All Season 2‑in-1 0º F Windshield Washer Fluid product contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOC) that exceeded the standards specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94509(a) (Consumer Products Regulations). The violation resulted in approximately 2.26 tons of excess VOC emissions in the “Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid” (premix) category.
Orgill fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter. To come into compliance, Orgill removed products out of retail locations that are in a Nontype "A" areas in California. Additionally, Orgill has put in place a check and balance procedure to help prevent the sale of noncompliant products into California.
