California Air Resources Board

In 2007, CARB submitted the South Coast 2007 Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) that demonstrated attainment of the 1997 8-hour ozone standard by 2023. In the 2016 AQMP, the District revised its attainment demonstration to achieve the 1997 standard in 2023. The revised attainment demonstration relies on section 182(e)(5) future technology provisions provided in the Clean Air Act and includes a commitment to submit contingency measures for those provisions three years prior to the attainment date of 2023. The South Coast 8-Hour Ozone SIP Update satisfies the CAA section 182(e)(5)(B) contingency submittal requirement. On December 12, 2019, the Board will consider adoption of the South Coast 8-Hour Ozone SIP Update.
